MATERIALS

A collection of my experience and projects realised with Wood, Metal and Leather.

Cube.2021 marked my first, monumental installation project. For its construction, I used wood planks.

As my family has a small wood working workshop in our family home, I got to connect with the material from a relatively young age, building small chairs, coat hangers and many more house hold items.

Thus, it was always my dream to build a bigger wooden construction to elevate my skills.  The cube was initially built to serve as a space for exhibiting selected artworks inside of it.

“Its concept laid in the notion, that cube, as a geometrical object, is the representative symbol of our three-dimensional life.”
The project was also accompanied by a short film, titled the same, in which I captured the entire building process of the Cube.

LEATHER

Leather was a huge part of my life for years because of my studies in Riga. Over the course of 4 years, I learned the in's and out's of bag, shoe, leather accessory construction and how does the material behave in different environments. Although, I'm not working with leather currently, it is still an honour to have learned such craft and to count myself as a professional in it.

Below, I have compiled a list of the biggest projects I took up on, while I was studying in Riga.

This is a project that unfortunately couldn't be made in a  physical form because of the Covid 19 epidemy, which made abruptions in ours schools curriculum.

Nevertheless, the project, “Voyage” presented a solution for item organisation and offered an adjustable bag construction for different lifestyles.

A simple, asketic aesthetic style mixed with complex, yet carefully thought out item organisational system offers the potential client a look at its new daily backpack.

“Leather slippers” presents a timeless, minimalistic design combined with quality leather and comfort.

Realised as a part of my school's curriculum in 2022.

Perhaps, the most fun project I've done with leather. We are assigned to create a waist bag solution and i thought of an idea, to create a collection of small, circular individual accessory bags. Color scheme was chosen to accompany the fun overall shape of the product and did a great job doing so.

Apart from the difference in sizes and colors, each bag also has different zipper closures, to further diversify the bags and really make it a fun project for myself.

The waist bag collection can be worn both individually and together. It is reccomended for wearing over the shoulder, although can also be easily worn on the waist.

METAL

Metal is my favourite material to work with, even though my experience with it is quite limited.

Because of my work at Ērenpreiss bicycles, there were times, when because of limited human resources, we needed to do various jobs at once. During those times, I learned how to restore metal, to remove rust and polish it.

This particular metal material project is my biggest yet, titled “the chair” and was made as a home assignment for submission into Design Academy Eindhoven, in 2023.

It's concept: “Cisu maiss” - a linen fabric sack filled with straws, is known as one of the most traditional seating objects in the Latvian country side.
I wanted to give it a new, contemporary look by adding a geometrical metal frame and linen fabric. The frame is built by welding together steel pipes and marks the first project in which I used the welding machine.

In the end, this chair got me accepted in the Design Academy Eindhoven and still is present at my family home in Latvia, mostly used for reading.
