TRANSFORMATION

What?

In 2022, I was trusted with creating an exhibition, as a part of the platforms' "DE.ĢENERĀCIJA" annual program.

We had a pretty limited budget, thus I analyzed the sectors in which we could experiment, meanwhile delivering the same amount of quality of both, the exhibitors and the visitors.

WHY?                                                                                                                        WHY?                                                                                                                     WHY?

“To transform, is to grow. Thus, when creating this exhibition, I invited people, to see how the collection itself grows over the course of 9 days”
.
Because we were a part of a European organisation, we needed to implement some aspect of the E.U values in the concept. Thus, I applied "Transformation" in the case of Latvia joining the European union. The whole process took 9 years in total. From those 9 years, I derived the main concept and slogan of the exhibi-tion: "9 years, 9 days".

The concept was also adapted to such ideology - on day 1, only one artist came to exhibit his artwork. Then, day by day, people could watch the exhibition literally growing through the large store windows. Thus, you automatically become more connected with the show, rather than coming in to an already filled out room.

How?

The exhibition lasted for a total of 9 days, but I thought it would be more meaningful to stretch out the concept of "Transformation" even more, therefore, the exhibition grew gradually over time - on the first day we started with only one artist.

Day by day, the room filled in with the artists coming to the gallery, setting up the works themselves, meanwhile the audience could get a chance to meet with them live.

“The common theme for all of my works are transparency, thus, that also came into consideration when picking out a space and settling on an abandoned fashion store because of its large windows.”

By the end, we had achieved the biggest physical reach for events hosted by our platform for young artists “DE.ĢENERĀCIJA”, totalling 500 visitors at the event culmination.

It was my last exhibition under the platform and opened the gates for further, external collaborations with the best artistic and musical talent in Riga, some of which, will be realised this summer, 2024.
